Sidsel Colbiørnsen was born in 1942 and began her artistic career in Oslo in the late 1960s. There, she was part of a community that campaigned for textile art to be considered a visual art on a par with painting and sculpture, which were the established genres in Norway at the time. In 1971 she moved to Godøya outside Ålesund, where she has been working to this day.
In the period 1970–80, Colbiørnsen experimented widely, exploring themes, materials and formats and completing numerous major commissions. In the course of the 1990s, she developed the idiom for which she is best known today and which is still evolving.
This exhibition shows works and sketches from Colbiørnsen’s six decades as an active artist.
