Jugendstilsenteret and KUBE

En enkel strektegning viser en person i hatt og sløyfe sammen med en smilende hund og et abstrakt m.

Anja Ulset mainly works with drawing, photography and installations. She has a reflective and inquisitive approach to art in public spaces, and often works with publications as her artistic medium. Ulset has been invited to do a project based on the artistic production of sculptor Ambrosia Tønnesen (1859–1948). Tønnesen was born in Ålesund and is famous for being Norway’s first professional female sculptor.

The meeting point between Ulset and Tønnesen takes form as an artist’s book. In the book, Ulset outlines a hundred suggestions to art projects that could have emerged from the commission from the museum. Thus, the book provides an insight into how Ulset works with the material, at the same time as it examines Tønnesen’s artistic work at the beginning of the 1900s, as well as her historical influence, from a new perspective. Ulset will also realise some of the suggestions in the book. These will be exhibited at the Art Nouveau Centre and KUBE, and the Anders Svor Museum, during the project period.

Anja Ulset (b. 1981) lives and works in Tingvoll. She has an MA from Bergen Academy, 2010.
