Fast utstilling
Ålesund has been dominant in the production of Norwegian clipfish (dried fish) ever since the 1950s. This method of manufacturing fish was introduced to Nordmøre (district North of Sunnmøre) in the mid 1700s, before being introduced to Sunnmøre. From 1835 the development gained momentum and when spanish ships came to call at Kristiansund and Ålesund, Ålesund became one of the main coastal towns for trade of dried fish. The Clipfish Exhibition in The Fisheries Museum presents the development of fisheries in Sunnmøre, the export market, the equipment as well as clipfish qualities.
