Sunnmøre Museum
Sunnmøre Museum – Ålesund
I was here
Sunnmøre – Norway’s watery frontier to the north-west, extends from the wild peaks and deep fjords in the interior to the polished rocks and rich fishing grounds on the coast.
People have been making their lives here for generations – some leaving their mark for posterity, others simply fading into obscurity. Sunnmøre is also part of the wider world. Some people came and settled, others upped and left.
Permanent exhibition
Who were they? Life prospects have evolved, opportunities have come and gone. This exhibition tries to get to know these people through objects that they have held in their hands, pictures of their faces, videos of their movements, recordings of their voices. How can we interpret their voices today, and what are they telling us?
We want to invite our visitors to engage and reflect.
The exhibition extends over two floors in the main museum building. Entrance to the exhibition is from the café. Wheelchair and pushchair accessible.
