The trading of processed fish products demanded packaging which ensured the quality of the goods, especially when exporting to overseas markets.

The cooper profession was one of the crafts that evolved with the demand of new packaging. Inventor Henrik Olai Olsen – nicknamed «Patent Olsen» – was one of the very first to mechanize the barrel production in Norway. In this exhibition his cooperage, dating back to the early 1900s, can be experienced.
